    I don't understand.....

OK - sorry I do, but I couldn't resist. I actually understood your original post, and laughed to myself about the whole blogger / rumor mill version that spread around.

Anyway, good post. Totally agree with you. I currently use an iPhone (only had it a few months but it's got one of the best user experiences out there for a mobile), have used an entire catalog of other phones in the past including all of the Nokia communicators, the N95, as well as various SE smartphones and HTC devices. I have also done the MIDs, with both the 770 and 800 finding homes in my pockets or computer bags. Haven't played with any of the mini-laptops, but in general they seem too small for me. If I have to carry something that big I might as well carry a Macbook or one of my Dell machines.

Anyway, I'm about to start rambling on about nothing. Just wanted to re-iterate that this was a dead on, accurate post. Thanks.

Your point is sound. I think it would benefit from using 2 distinct phrases to distinguish between "Mobile Web Access" and "Mobile Web Delivery". In your job search post you said again that the Mobile Web Industry is doomed, which could be confusing to readers. I understand you are saying that Mobile Web Access is on the up and that Mobile Web Delivery (As opposed to simply "Web Delivery") is doomed.

I assume you mean "1 out of 10" and not "1 to 10" when talking about people who will actually download mobile apps. I think you are underestimating how accessible moves like integrating the App Store into iTunes will make downloading apps to a mobile phone.

Wow what a post, And this is because someone didn't understand you :)
I generally agree with your saying "Mobile apps suck" but I would modify it to: "Mobile apps is a small market except for Mobile games".
    gr8 post!!!

Downloadable applications can't succeed on their own - I had to explain this numerous times to our sales guys, without too much success. It bugged me so much that I ended up writing a post about it. But now that the iPhone 3G is out there, with an AppStore with too much hype, I just might need to refresh our sales team's memories.
That said, I think that the "mobile web" will become commonplace only in 2-3 years from now. The iPhone has shown that you can browse the net - only thing missing now is reasonable data plans by most of the world's operators and enough WiFi access points (and phones to use them with a roaming service) and better HSDPA coverage.

I still don't think MIDs are going to take off, but we shall see.

As a recent law graduate, I noticed how often reported cases get summarised and then re-summarised without looking at the primary source... before you know it, chapters in textbooks are written on the basis of laziness and plagiarism. I guess the same happens in the blogging world but is more prevalent.

Couldn't agree more, Russ. I have been trying to warn developers against embedded apps for the longest time. And don't get me started about the iPhone apps. 30 MM downloads in 1 month. Sure! It's a novelty! Let's not forget the FB app phenomenon. Let's see who really succeeds in taking their apps from the one platform that has a 1% penetration of the mobile market to the 100's of other platforms.

Also, what about VC's? They continue to fund mobile applications companies. Why?
